I'm taking a networking class at my private school and I am a senior graduating in 4 months. I heard my teacher say that this class is college level Cisco Networking.....so my question is-can I get an entry level networking job straight out of high school after getting a good grade in this class? Or would most employers require college training or network+ certification??
Getting a Networking job out of High School??
Get a 4 year Computer Science degree you will be worth more to potential employers with a degree. If you really want to make the big bucks get an MBA after your 4 year degree. People with CISSPs and other Cisco certifications are a dime a dozen these days. These days being Cisco certified is like saying you were a Microsoft Certified Sales Engineer 5 years ago. Big deal...
Reply:i would think most employers would require, or at least prefer, college training or a college degree.
Reply:Certs are needed and at lease 3 to 5 years experience. You should look into CSC (computer science corporation) http://www.csc.com and contact HR, they have free programs for out of high school or early stages in college students. Internship Program during college break and summer.
We had 3 students and 1 of them was just finishing High School. All 3 were in our Network Department. Learning about Cisco Catalyst 3750 Switches how they're stacked connect. Clear Insight Network Monitor. Prior you won't get paid while you there, but last year they got good money for working almost $1,000 per week.
Reply:i work for an IT company and i never went to college for it but i know that ill never be able to get ahead as much as i would if i was certified or had a degree...
Reply:College traing my friend there is no such thing in the computer world and getting a college class in highschool. It is the same technology it is all about how he teeaches it which networking and computers are alot easier thaan you think once you start to understand how they work networking is easy you really dont need schooling just a nerd to show you but this day and age you must have that piece of paper saying you passed the classes.
Reply:you should go and finish college....even if its not the chose you would make...you might be better off
plus..i heard the college party are verrrrry fun
