If you're looking to become a Network Admin, obviously you want education in dealing with Networking and both the Windows environment.

Depending on the type of hardware you guys operate with - for the networking training, I would like into Cisco's CCNA training. It stands for Cisco Certified Networking Associate. You'll cover a lot of basics in this, but since it's from Cisco - it's very vendor specific - so you'll cover all the routing protocols and devices that only is Cisco.

If you're looking for Networking knowledge that isn't vendor specific, might I suggest Comptia's Net+ certification. This covers a lot of the basics of networking, however it is not vendor specific. This is going to be A LOT easier then Cisco cert/training

As for the Microsoft end of it - I'd start with Comptia's A+ certification, this is very basic and very easy. 2 parts, Hardware and Software. You might have this knowledge all ready, but it's a great building block. You never know where the hardware skills will come in handy.

Now as far as the Microsoft side, I would suggest pursuing the MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) - If you take the A+ and Net+ prior, you can use them combinded as an elective (1 less Microsoft test)

Hope this helps! If you go the companies websites, they will suggest training and study material as well as give you objectives for each

Reply:The MCSA covers quite a bit, and then after that - you can pursue the MCSE. having the MCSA prior helps out - less tests.

The MCSE will have you take a specialization test - Like Messaging (Exchange, 2003 + 2007), Sharepoint, etc. It's a little more particular. Report It

Reply:it depends on your level of technical experience. it starts from your basic foundation of installing, configuring, and troubleshooting windows based pc...then you need to be familiar with basic network concepts and theories, and lastly, you need to be familiar with server hardware/software.

so depending on where you stand with the aforementioned topics, you can pickup a few books from amazon/ebay, i.e. windows 2003 server, exchange 2003 server, windows xp and then refer to the following sites: cramsession.com, braindumps.com, and testking.com which have a lot of resources you can pick from. Those sites show certification path and info, i.e. MSCE, MCP, and MCSA. lastly, nothing teaches you more than self-made labs, so obtain windows software via friend, purchase, or download evaluation software from Microsoft directly and try to get some old PCs to use as clients/servers...hope that helps.
Reply:go for MCSE certification and it will put you on track Windows networking.
