Networking or programming career path?

hi, i currently just graduated in computer science and am looking into what field to go in but am not sure...

should i go into networking or java developing?

i got decent knowledge of networks and basic java knowldge although programming does my head in, but i am willing to work on my weaknesses to better my career.

any one have any experience or advice?

im tempted to do SCJP qualification but in all java jobs they want commercial experience in java, whereas im currently in a full time job as a trainee technician and could possibly progress to some networking, so am pondering whether to CCNA and CCNP qualification...

your thoughts will be apprieciated,, thanks

Networking or programming career path?
It depends on what your situation is now. How much money do you need right now? If you are in a crunch then it sounds like you will be able to make more money sooner with networking. If you really want to get into development then take a lower pay development job to get some of that experience under your belt.

I use knowledge of both fields equally in my job and am glad I didn't not not study one.

Also, your not choosing what to do for the rest of your life here. If you just graduated, try some different things and settle on what you love.

It sounds like you have made up your mind.
Reply:At your age, you may not like this answer - but later you will, and remember it with fondness.

Your career will last decades - the technology you choose today will not. The technology you choose five years from now will not.

Right now, follow your strengths, but remember this quote from Isaac Asimov (google that name).

"The secret of programming is not knowing how to ask the questions, but rather knowing which questions to ask"

It's very, very true - ask any programmer old enough to have at least a few grey hairs.....

Good Luck, Have Fun and kick some a55.
Reply:Try to figure out which one has less need for good grammar and choose that one.
