Wireless networking - TP-Link wireless adapter with netgear wirless router?

Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to get 2 different brands of wirless networking to work together. The two things I am trying to get to work together are a TP-Link wireless adapter (TL-WN620G) and a netgear wireless router. Can I get these to work together. I have installed the software and everything but still nothing. I know its not my router beacuse it works with my Netgear wireless adapter but not with the TP-Link wireless adapter? For the TP-Link, I typed in the network name and network key and all that kind of stuff. When I opened up the software for the TP-Link, it shows channel, profile name, network type, etc. And all of it looks good but at the bottom it shows the Signal Strength (which is zero) and then it says no link. Well if anyone has an aswer, please reply.

sure you can mix wireless brands together, but its preferable no to do so,

any way in your problem, go to control panel, add remove programs, uninstall TP-link wireless client, because its the cause of all the trouble, then let windows manage your wireless connection.

Contact me if this didn't solve it?

Networking and electronics?

I am going or my associate's degree in Network Systems Administration, I have my A+, and I plan on also getting my Network+. If I go for a degree in electronics, will it go hand in hand with my A.S. degree in networking? I want to add on to my career, or will me getting an A.S. in electronics be a whole new career instead of an add on?

Networking and electronics?
You're that NSA guy from before right? LOL

Sorry I didn't recognize your acronymn. I've been a Network Engineer since we were using Token Ring and when I think of NSA I still think of the National Security Agency.

A+ if you have an AS in Electronics is redundant.

A+ if you have a BS in Electronic Engineering it is redundant also.

MCSE is you have a BS in Electronic Engineering or Associates in Network Systems Administration or Electronics is NOT redundant.

Electronics is a good base for Network Engineers.

Computer Science is a good base for Programmers or QA Engineers.

Programmers and QA Engineers earn better salaries than Network Engineers do.

I have the equivalent of a BS in Electronics Engineering by way of training from the U.S. Army. I worked on cryptographic electronics systems for 11 years. I also hold a CNE and an MCSE. I never bothered with an A+ certification. Your mileage may vary.

I would suggest you get both degrees.

Yes it will. They both compliment each other. I have an extensive Electronics background and schooling from the military. I have a degree in computer programming. I am also A+ C++ certified. GOOD LUCK.
Reply:Communications technology, networking, and computer tech will all help; as for electronics, it may help if you are going to deal with regular maintenance, repair, upgrade, and down-'n-dirty work. As for systems administration, I highly doubt you'd be overseeing the installation of a new 32 pin power supply. However, the experience gained in electronics may very well help.

Networking multiple computers?

I don't know much about networking and thought I would ask this question, although it may sound trivial to most.

Basically I am wondering if I connect my laptop and desktop to a linksys modem box, can I use the programs from computer to computer? For example, I have Photoshop on my desktop and don't want to place it on my laptop so can I network my computers so I can use the program like this?

If using programs is not possible I am curious if networking is mainly for sharing documents?

Thank you for the help!

Networking multiple computers?
http://computer.howstuffworks.com/home-n...

Networks can do all kinds of things

they CAN be used to share documents. I share movies within my network. I can watch any of my movies from any computer. its really nice. I bought a vid card with tv out. so they're pumped to my big ol TVs.

Some networks allow you to use the CPUs together. So I could have 3 computers working (2 dual cpus and 1 single) thats 5 CPUs) on one project. Helps me with speeding up 3D rendering. You need to learn linux though. Its the only OS that can do it as far as I know.

I also share the signle cable internet connection with all three computers. Sweet.

but to get more direct to your question, Yes. program sharing is possible. (I know there are other ways, but I can't recall off the top of my head)

I use remote admin 3.0 (Because its seamless)

http://www.famatech.com/

so I can "use my other computer" from my otherother computer. it works great. I spy on my kid's net movement that way too. She's six and needs come guidance.

I wish someone would tell me how to share programs easilier too!! tell us HOW
Reply:You can connect your laptop and desktop on a local network like that. If you want to sit at your laptop to access stuff on your desktop, you would have to share and give permissions on the files/folders inside of your desktop so that you can access them through the laptop. You can even get a wireless network card for your laptop (not so tethered w/ wires then, lol) and still access the same way, pretty much.

If you want to control the other computer, you can just remotely access it and then do whatever you want.

Btw; networking can be used for almost anything...there are all types of network setups and for different purposes. Basically, anything you can do with one computer can also be done on a larger scale with more computers.
Reply:you can transfer files and share programs on all machines.and have your computer fixed by remote access.

you can do this by direct cable or wireless.

you have to install a wireless card and modem and router in all units and service provider or connect by a 10/100 card to modem
Reply:You're correct, it is mostly for file and printer sharing. Also, for example, when sharing a printer, you stilll need to install the software on both machines in order for them to actually work.

It is also used for internet connection sharing.

Cheers!

Computer Networking Equipment?

I am trying to compile a list of computer networking equipment. I'm hardly familiar with the concepts of computer networking.. but I need a, hopefully, exhaustive list of equipment. So far I've got: Servers, firewalls, routers, switches, hubs, modems, [throw in some suggestions here!]. It's supposed to be a pretty large network not a home type thing. Reason: I need to find parts that meet requirements for a network and I can't start without knowing what the parts are! haha..

Computer Networking Equipment?
If you have an unlimited budget and are being told to buy the hardware then we'll design around it - I want to be an SE for a vendor around you. Get a current topology of what is in place. If this is unavailable you are really going to be taking a swag. Try to get the high level stuff first, then drill into the lower layer system related stuff so you understand what they are migrating from and the applications (and importance) they are running (voice, video, SAP, SQL, etc). Then build a requirements list such as number of sites, number of servers, types of servers, remote access to corporate resources both from a user stand point and small office standpoint. Get an understanding of current bandwidth usage and future technology uses that may add to it. Then build on security, how is it secured today, how can it be better secured tomorrow (also, how and why certain networks or subnets exist). Maybe then you can come up with a very rough hardware list - include growth potential for 5 years maybe 15-20%. Unless you have a very small network or limited requirements no one can really give you a "great" idea of what you need in two or three paragraphs, only a good place to start and considerations. Good luck.
Reply:Im not sure what type of network you want to build or how big, or how many users or if you will need VPN access, Wireless capabilities, Network attached storage, email, what type of security you require, what servers. cameras or printers you want to run.

I dont know why you would be trying to design a network if you have no idea what to do, this is not a plug and play busines.

If all you want is a list of networking equipment that can be used why not just goto a networking manufactures site like http://www.dlink.com
Reply:As a network engineer...

I disagree with your assertion.

I would first figure out WHAT you want to do... then find the hardware and software you needed to accomplish it.

That's sorta like going to HOME DEPOT and visiting their TOOL DEPARTMENT... and getting a list of every tool.

WHY? If all you need is a SCREWDRIVER and a WRENCH?

FIRST... create the TASK - then figure out WHAT you need to do it. Why MUDDY the waters with irrelevant facts?

Networking, eithernet, two xp's one mill. ME?

Followed the directions as best as I could but the ME is not recongizing the network, the two XP's are , but the one XP is not finding the networked printer. oh the XP's are PRO is there a free software that will help me? I am a novice with networking.

Networking, eithernet, two xp's one mill. ME?
On the ME, just like windows 98, the networking has to be turned on. I forget how to do this, but try the Help on the Windows ME. Look under file sharing, they will tell you how to turn on the networking there.

Networking problem. crossover cable configuration.?

i wanted to copy files from my desktop pc which runs XP OS to my laptop which has a vista OS. i have read in the internet about crossover cable but i haven't found an article which discuss the crossover cable connection in detail. i wanna know how am i going to set-up the connection and how am i going to configure my network connection in my pc's with different operating systems.

i don't have any background on networking so i need a detailed steps in how to set-up my network.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Networking problem. crossover cable configuration.?
How many PCs in total?

If just 2 - you only need a 'cross-wired' LAN UTP cable - they are readily available marked as 'suitable for networking 2 PCs' or similar.

You can connect a printer to one or both of the PCs.

If more than 2 machines and/or using Broadband, the easiest is by direct wired LAN UTP cable and a router (the Broadband modem may have a router in some models).

You can use SW Firewalls, but if you want a firewall in your router, then you will need more expensive equipment.

While many seem to prefer 'wireless networks', you will generally get faster LAN throughput speeds from LAN UTP cable rather than 'wireless' - and fewer security hassles - outsiders can use your Broadband connection unless you set up the security properly - such 'eavesdropping' is not as easily possible on direct wiring!

Recent laptops have a UTP connection, as should most newer desktops - if not you will need interface cards as appropriate.
Reply:The best way to do it is to use a USB drive (jump drive, pen drive, flash drive, everyone has their own name it seems).

If I'm not mistaken, there is an issue with Vista being incompatible with some aspects of XP. There is a fix for it, though.

I still think the best option is transferring the data onto a USB drive. You can get 1GB drives for the cost of a crossover cable.
Reply:You will need to set up static IP address for both PCs. I'm not sure for Vista, but for XP, here's how you do it. Make sure the PCs are already connected by the crossover cable. When Windows prompts that it's already connected, do the following:

1. Start %26gt; Control Panel and double click on Network Connections.

2. Right click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties.

3. Select the General tab.

4. Under "This connection uses the following items:", double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".

5. A new window will open. Select the General tab.

6. Select "Use the following IP address" radio button.

7. Type in an IP address, preferably anything between this set: 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254. The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Gateway IP can be blank.

8. Leave the second part blank and click OK.

Do this for the Vista computer as well.

Next, set up a sharing folder. Create a new folder on your desktop or somewhere convenient and put all the files you wish to transfer in this folder. Right click on this folder and select Properties. Select the Sharing and Security tab. Select Share this folder option and click OK.

Then go to Start %26gt; Run and type in: \\192.168.1.X (the other computer's IP address) and press Enter. Log in.

Transfer the files and you're done.
Reply:I might suggest the easy way: get a cheap router and that could be all you need do. If you need any configuring it will be strait forward and the easiest way to go. You want to connect to the internet, right. You need a router.
Reply:A crossover cable is all that is needed. It simply has two pins reversed. You can then hook the two PC's up directly via the Ethernet port via the crossover cable. You will have to configure both PC's with a static IP address since there will be no DHCP router to assign them one. This is not simple for a beginner, although it is not extremely difficult. Just run the Network applet in the control panel. Right click the Lan Connection icon and select properties. Double click the TCPIP Protocol.

For the first PC:

Static IP: 192.168.1.1

DNS: 192.168.1.1

Gateway: 192.168.1

Repeat for the second PC with the following:

Static IP: 192.168.1.2

DNS: 192.168.1.2

Gateway: 192.168.2

Of course, if you have a router, you can just use standard cables and hook both PC's to the router. In that case, you won't need to do any configuration of the PC's as they will be assigned an IP and network configuration from the router in most cases. This is the route I would suggest you take. Basic routers are very cheap and can be had for as little as 20 bucks.

You can purchase crossover cables at just about any computer store. You can also build your own, although you will need the tools to crimp the cables and some patience working with those small wires/pins.

http://www.littlewhitedog.com/content-8....

Once you have the network connection working (via a crossover, or a router), you can then access the other PC using it's hostname by selecting START -%26gt; RUN and typing in:

\\hostname

Where "hostname" is the name you gave the TARGET PC when you setup windows on it. You can check that name by right clicking on your My Computer icon and selecting Properties.

If you want to access a specific folder or share, you can access the other PC using an Admin share like so:

\\hostname\c$

The above would let you access the C Drive on the target PC. It should prompt you for an Administrator name and password. The login name you supply should be in the following format for a home network:

Hostname\username

So if your first PC was called Bob, and your second PC was called Weave and you were on Bob attempting to access Weave, you would login using these credentials when prompted:

Weave\administrator

(where 'administrator' is the Admin account on the Weave PC)

Reply:There are so many reasons or so many possibilities. Lot you didnt say. Do you have a wireless router or a wired router?

Did you install the router per the installation CD?

Try this. Turn off everything.

Turn on DSL or cable modem

Turn on wireless router

Turn on each computer.

Good luck
Reply:Go to my network places and run the setup a small buisness or home network wizard. Follow the prompts.

Here is instructions for windows xp (the first two)

If you do this, and want to transfer files, just right click your c drive temprarily / sharing, and share the drive (or folder)

Go to my network places and you will have access from the other computer.

Networking problem?

networking must not like me. okay, objective, im trying to get two computers linked to play multiplayer stategy game. the two computers are xp computers. theyre not old. i got a router, attached cables from router to both computers and it only recognizes that there is one computer. im using the wires that look advanced to regular phone wires. i tried the network wizard in control panel and there is a repeating error, it wont let me finish the network wizard. any ideas on how to link the computers or whats wrong? =)

Networking problem?
Is your cable yellow and marked "Crossover" ?

WAN plug goes to the modem, and the station plugs(Usually 1~4) goes to the machine.

Also, powercycle everything once it is all hooked up - plug the modem in first, followed by the Router, then the pc's.

Hope this helps you out!
Reply:First, check the cables (as the response above suggests).

Your router should have a configuration web page (check your manual for details). Use this and make sure the modem is allocated as the "DHCP server". Then make sure that the WinXP computers have their network settings set to "Obtain an IP address automatically". Reboot the computers and you should be fine.
Reply:on the desktop screen of both computers right click on the "my computer" icon and select properties. Select computer name and make sure each computer has a unique name. (can be anything such as computer 1 and computer 2) Then below make sure it says part of workgroup, and put in a work group name. Once again, you can select any name you want; just make sure both computers have the same work group name. Since your using a router, you can manually set up your tcp/ip address. Go to start, and look for my network tap. Open that and select network connections. Right click on the network adapter and select properties, then select tcp/ip and select properties. Make sure your ip address is uniqe (propably something along the lines of like 192.168.1.2 for and and .3 for the second; your subnet will probably be 255.255.255.0 and your default gateway will be 192.168.1.1 (assuming your ip address starts that way) Your DNS will be the same as your gateway. Both computers should then be able to see each other. Good luck.
Reply:right click on my computer left click on manage double click on device manager click on the plus sign next to network adapters make sure it is working properly no red or red x if it is red right click on the adapter and enable if necessary download the driver and enable

DOS Networking Problems?

Hi, I'm attempting to connect to a network which consists of Windows XP PC's using a PC running DOS 6.22. The PC is modern, but runs an old OS for the software we need. It has a LAN Card in, which I have working drivers for, and I'm using Microsoft Networking Client. The problem is I cannot install the drivers %26amp; software without selecting IPX Compatible protocol aswell as TCP/IP, if I do, I get an error when I try to start the network software. If I do enable it, it tries to connect through IPX rather than TCP/IP. I have had the same networking card working fine on a different PC in DOS, but cannot get it working in this PC! Any suggestions? Thanks, Thomas

DOS Networking Problems?
in the protocol stack move TCP/IP to be above IPX/SPX it moves down the stack. sorry i can't be much more help but my net+ class didn't go that far back
Reply:I can relate. I've had the same problem.

Your problem is that the DOS packet driver you're using isn't compatible with the Ethernet chipset that's in your computer. IPX may work since it's a lower level protocol than compared to TCP/IP.

You won't like the solution. We tracked down the original author of the smc DOS packet driver and paid him to code up a new packet driver for a newer smc chipset. It was relatively inexpensive since the code change was trivial.

Caution: purchasing the same computer as the one that works may not solve your problem. Manufactures are always changing motherboard components.
Reply:Yeah... whatever the software is that's making you use DOS... Ditch it! It's not worth the pain and effort!

Whatever problem you fix today, will be there again tomorrow. In the long run, I suggest you source a long term fix and catch up with the times, whatever it does.. it can't be worth battling to keep DOS connecting with the modern world.

Networking basics - suggestions for info on the net?

I'm going to give all the details of the problem with my Wireless Networking Adapter, and I need an in-depth, step-by-step, idiot-proof answer.

I've got the thing hooked up correctly, as when I

"Test Xbox LIVE Connection", Network Adapter shows a USB Wireless.

The problem is on "Wireless Network", the next step in the process. I need to enter my computer's settings, but I don't know where on the computer to find them.

I have

IP Address

Subnet Mask

and Gateway

filled in.

I need to know the difference in Manual and Automatic DNS settings.

I also need to know where I can find my WEP key for Wireless Mode.

Also, when I enter my WEP key, will SSID, Network Type, and Network Security, appear? If not, where do I find those? (Sorry, I'm Technologically Retarded)

Is there any other info I'll need to get after I enter the settings?

Thanks for the help.

Home networking expert? please help!?
I hate to say it but this isnt a rare problem with MS networks.

The only solution to an ongoing like this problem is to either update your router by checking for updates with the makers online. Then running network wizard on your computers again.

sometimes you may just need to reconnect to the network just right click the icon in the task bar and click repair.

I had the same problem for weeks until I bought a new router. Its just a big problem microsoft still havnt got right.

Networking between pcs and a laptop?

hi friends, i have a laptop and 5 pcs, i made sharing through laptop but it wont display the systems which r in network. but all my 5 pcs displays the laptop is in network. but i cant login to that laptop. please suggest me some tips to make networking between laptop and pcs....

Networking between pcs and a laptop?
First of all if the PC are working on windows 98 they wont show u the laptop which may be obviously working ona XP.

if you are using XP on the left side of the screeen u will have a option called veiw network computers that should work.

or u need to set the security levels of laptop so that it could be accessed.
Reply:First of all, all your computers should be connected to same Work Group / Domain. If through Work Group, then you should use the same user name and password on all the computers. You will be able to access all the computers.

make all the pcs and laptop of one workgrop, it will work then

Networking/Subnetting/Masking?

I am in a Networking class right now and subnetting has fallen upon us. I am having some serious trouble with this so I am asking if I can receive some help on how to figure this stuff out, Out professor gave us a sample problem and told us to see if we could figure it out. Here it is:

We have: 200.100.50.38

What is the network and type of network?

What is the subnet?

What is the node?

What is the mask?

How many bits would need to be borrowed for 15 subnets?

I don't want just the answers. I want to know how to get this information. Can you help?

Networking/Subnetting/Masking?
The subnet mask is an indicator of what part of the whole 32-bit IP address identifies the network, and what part identifies the device ("host"). (The "dotted decimal notation" using addresses like "200.100.50.38" is actually shorthand for a string of 32 binary bits -- in this case 1100100 01100100 00110010 00100110. A "mask" is likewise a string of 32 bits, but it's always a bunch of 1's, followed by a bunch of 0's.) The bits in the IP Address which correspond to the 1's in the mask identify the network, while the bits which correspond to the 0's identify the host.

Actually figuring out the masks take a fair amount of binary arithmetic, but I'll try to explain your example.

Class A networks start with numbers from 0 to 127, class B from 128 to 191, class C from 192 to 223. Your network is a class C. The network is 200.100.50, and with a default class C network, that's also the subnet. The default subnet mask for a class C network is 255.255.255.0 (or 11111111 11111111 11111111 00000000 in binary.) The node is the address of the host (without the network address), that is, 38.

Now if you're going to split up that default network into sub-networks, you use a "subnet mask" which indicates how many more bits are going to be used for the network. If you borrow N bits, you get 2 to the Nth power possible subnets. If you want 15 subnets, you find the lowest power of 2 which is greater than the number of subnets you want -- this is 2 to the 4th, or 16. So you borrow 4 bits. This would make your subnet mask 11111111 11111111 11111111 11110000 in binary, or 255.255.255.240 in dotted decimal. (This would leave 4 bits, or 16 addresses, for each subnet.)

Now just to complicate things, it turns out that you can't use all of the bits for subnets or hosts -- two of the subnets and two of the hosts are not allowed, so your answer to this question really depends on whether the professor specified "legal" subnets or not. If you need 15 "legal" subnets, then 4 bits won't cover it -- 16 - 2 = 14, so you need 5 bits borrowed, a mask of 255.255.255.248, and only 6 hosts (2 to the 3rd minus 2) per subnetwork.
Reply:as based upon the first octet.

192-223 CLASS C

224 and on is CLASS D and E (disregard for now since that applies to Multicast).

BUT you are assuming classful boundaries on the first part of the question.

The NODE is the actual IP in use, so you already have that answer, the subnet is going to be the numbers that represent x.x.x since this is a class C IP.

the subnet mask would also apply to the x.x.x.

so 200.100.50.0/255.255.255.0 would be the subnet and mask.

given that's a /24 network (class c etc..see the subnet mask above) . You want to have 15 subnets, BUT, that is an odd number in the grand scheme of things. The number of subnets you can have w/in that class C will either be, 2, 4, 8, 16, 64, 128, 192, 224, 240, 248.

The best way to deal w/ subnetting is to learn/master the /bit masks etc..

ie..

/24 == 255.255.255.0 == 11111111.11111111.11111111.0000000

/25 == 255.255.255.128 == 1's.1's.1's.10000000

etc..

so then you would want to do a 28 bit based subnet mask, ie...16 hosts per subnet, (that'd be a /28, and have a .240 mask in the 4th octet).

I would read up on the page below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subnetting

the key is just learning to speak in classless (/24, /14, /29 bit masks) and understanding that /24 == 255 hosts

/25 == 128 hosts

/26 == 64 hosts etc..so and so forth cutting the number in half per each increment up to 32 (32 bit being all 1's)..
Reply:Once you learn how it's done you can use this.

Networking Apple computers?...File Permissions?

Hello, I was able to network 3 OSX 10.4 machines with each other at my boss's house (pretty easy considering I am not very experienced in Macs)! However, we have noticed that trying to open a file (such as excel) results in an error message (don't know it offhand) but it basically told me that we didn't have read/write permissions to edit the file. The only way that we could open the file and edit is to copy it locally and then open it.

Does anyone know why? There doesn't seem to be any sort of options in the System Preferences -%26gt; Networking section to set permissions for sharing. Help! Let me know if I need to provide more information. And I think we are using TCP/IP and not AppleTalk...not sure though, but we are using the Airport for the wireless network. Oh and yes, I tried to RTFM. Thanks!

Networking Apple computers?...File Permissions?
tcp, yet not appletalk leaves ftp and smb.

both are wrong for mac to mac sharing.

I've got several questions

When connected what does the 'mount' command return (in terminal)?

How did you start up the file sharing?

Is the disk connected to an airport extreme router?

Networking windows me?

networking windows me im networking a computer for someone i cant get windows me to netwrok on a network with other users have windows xp i havent had windows me 1 an i got rid of it asap it sucked

Networking windows me?
You're right ME does suck. But, if you networking with a router, all you'll need to do is make sure TCP/IP is on Auto assign IP address, and auto dns.

Another thing that might make life easier to to make sure all the computers on the network share a common work group name.

windows XP and ME ARE compatiable... infact.. windows 95, 98, 98se, ME, xp home, xp pro, server.. etc are all compatiable.
Reply:You can try connecting to the share by IP instead of name like //192.168.1.1/share

You will also need to login with a valid username on both machines.

Home networking help (transfer files)?

I followed the step by step procedures given in the internet regarding home networking (changing computer name, same workgroup etc). So I guess I already created a network between my desktop and laptop. What I want to do now is transfer some of my files from the desktop to the laptop. So I also did the Sharing and Security procedure. They say the folder would appear in the network connections, but I couldn't seem to find it.

1. How would I know if I really have a network between my computers?

2. How can I share files?

Please help. Im not a techie. :/

Home networking help (transfer files)?
If the machines go through wireless or a switch you should be ok. If they connect direct you need the cross-over cable. If you go to start/run on the pc you want the files from and type cmd and enter, then type in ipconfig you will see the IP address of this machine. Go to the other machine, open a folder (my computer) and type in the address bar \\the.ip.i.saw and go. This should display you shared files. If this works go to properties of the network connection then tcp/ip advanced properties and then the wins tab. Click always use netbios over tcp/ip. Essential for small network browsing, so defaulted by MS to switching off when it sees the router dhcp? You should then see the machine by name in your network places.

Reply:Are the computers physically connected or do you have a wireless hub? You don't say. The easiest way would be to go to a computer store and ask for a 'crossover cable'. Plug the ends into your PCs and off you go.
Reply:good lord , she said one was connected regualr one was wireless , and she put them in a work group , pay attention for christ sakes ,

also , since when is using a cross over cable just as simple as plugging the thing in , did you not forget that both nic cards need to be set to a private IP so the can communicate with each other ?

ok now to answer the question at hand

when you say you created a workgroup , did you put both the laptop and main pc in the same work group ?

since one is wireless did you change the security settings in the routers Nat firewall

hope this helps , if not post here again , will check back

How do you network printers and scanners in a small business computer networking? What equipment do you need (i.e. plugs, devices) in order to do this? Is networking printers and scanners provided by computer networking IT like at%26amp;t, or something with no service cost you can do on your own? Is it in anyway correlated with wireless internet networking in a small business office?

How do you network printers and scanners in a small business computer networking?
Printers and scanners, you can use a network USB device from Walmart, this puts the devices on the network. Then you need a switch , for the network, A router, CAT5 cable, Wireless router, and so on. Questions.

Route to networking?

I wanna make my career in networking but i don't have any networking

background what i know about computer is ms-office,gw/q basic

programming,foxpro,assemble/deassemble hardware,windows 2000.xp.vista

and some hardware/software theory and networking concepts like

lan/van,topologies and some other terms.

what i schedule myself in sequence is A+ study,Network+ study,CCNA

study and certification,MCSE study and certification.

so, plz advise me is it a good way to start and get CCNA %26amp; MCSE

certified and what would be my future and salary after A+,NETWORK+

knowledge and CCNA,MCSE certifications without any working experience.

Route to networking?
I recently got out of the Military with only 2 certs. One being a Network+ and the other being GSEC. Even though I didn't have all those certs you are wanting I do have experience with doing hands on Networking for 8 years. I got hired as a Network Engineer and when I got hired the company told me they cared more about what I have done in the networking field then the certs. 1 big thing going on in the networking community right now is people applies for jobs with all those certs they received in Boot Camps but when asked to show their ability the can't do anything that isn't right out of the test questions so they get fired.
Reply:It isa good way but, you will still need the degree at some point in time
Reply:I've been in IT for about 12 years. My personal opinion is that getting an MCSE prior to getting any work experience is overkill. If I was interviewing you, the fact that you had an MCSE instead of an MCDST or an MCSA would make very little difference. Get the A+. Get the MCDST. Then get a job. You will likely be doing help desk work. Once you're employed for a certain amount of time, many employers will either pay for or subsidize your continuing certification trail. Heck, mine even pays a bonus for passing each Microsoft test on top of buying the study materials and paying for the test. So get your certs on their dime. Plus, it's great fodder at review time to point to the accomplishments of passing your tests and getting your certs. When you get to that point, go ahead and get the CCNA and start working on the MCSE. Personally, I can take or leave Network+. If you're going to get an MCSE, I'd advise you to skip Network+.

My windows networking password does not work?

If I choose "windows logon" will I be able to use the windows networking?

My windows networking password is no longer working, says invalid password. If I hit cancel everything loads fine, and I can even print and everything through the network just fine. How do I fix the password? If I choose "WINDOWS LOGIN" in network, will it fix this, or will the network no longer work?

My windows networking password does not work?
The next time you see the login prompt for username and password:

1)Leave the username what it is.

2)Click into the password box and press the ENTER key.

All that means is that you are a part of a LAN now. When you have dial-up or some other forms of Internet access you aren't really on a LAN at all.

When you have cable, DSL, or satellite, you are really on a LAN.

This looks like homework but I 'll answer but you need to learn the answers if you are going to pass the course or networking test.

#1) State the OSI MODEL Mnemonic Layers 1-7 as defined in Network+

1.Physical 2. Data Link 3. Network 4. Transport 5. Session 6. Presentation 7. Application

#2) What is the difference between Standards 802.3 and 802.11?

802.11b wireless LAN (WLAN) standard is similar to that for IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) LAN. Good article on WIkepedia

#3) Define Plenum in your own words? Plenum cable is coated with fire resistant coating. A Plenum space is the air space in a floor or ceiling.

#4) What is the average size Router, Firewall, Switch, Patch Panel mounting rack width? 19 inches. Just got up and measured.

#5) State the Network-Type Fiber Application listed for these specifications:

SINGLE MODE-Wavelength/Size

1300nm 62.5/125 or 50/125-Micron

Multimode fiber is best designed for short transmission distances, and is suited for use in LAN systems and video surveillance. Single-mode fiber is best designed for longer transmission distances, making it suitable for long-distance telephony and multichannel television broadcast systems.

I need a professional answer for networking.I have 2 seperate network.How can I share a printer b/w them?Thnx?

To clarify more: I have 2 networks in my shop. Let's name it Network A %26amp; Network B. In network A,there's a printer to share for all computers and in Network B..there is no printer at all. So how can I link the printer in Network A from Network B? Do I need any networking hardware, or software?

Thanks in advance

I need a professional answer for networking.I have 2 seperate network.How can I share a printer b/w them?Thnx?
Here's the real answer from someone who does this thing for a living. The answer is that there is no way to answer your question without more information.

1. Is there any connection between these two networks now?

2. How is each network configured regarding IP addressing?

3. How is the current printer shared? Does it connect to Network A with a network card? Is it connected to a print server or does each machine print to it directly?
Reply:Well, I'm assuming the reason you have 2 seperate networks is to segregate traffic and increase security.

To share that printer, you're going to have to delve into access-lists (if you're using cisco).

Other than that, just get another printer with a jetdirect card (or some other configuration therto) and have 2 seperate printers as well.
Reply:The two networks must be linked OR the printer must have a WiFi interface that's network independent (has a unique IP address). I would add a switch to link the two networks if that's possible. I might also encourage use of a system to act as a Domain Controller.
Reply:u can get a switch and use VLANs to connect the networks virtually.
Reply:If I assume that these are not physically linked then you require a router or Wireless connection to physically connect the two networks together.

However, if there are physically linked with a router then you will have to configure the router or routers so that these two networks are visible to each other. This will require you to setup a VPN possibly between the two networks, depending on your requirements.

When I try to Ping another PC on the network, I get a *Error Code 5* message, The only Time I can connect to another PC on the network, is when I try it in Safe mode with networking. Yet, I still can not seem to get a IP Adress automatically, I have to enter it in manually, I cannot get to the Inernet either, I suspect the security program (Mcafee) on the PC is corruppt, and is blocking the signals... I do not know how to get the computer to connect to the internet, or to get a IP address automatically (DHCP is Enabled, and All Drivers are up to date). Every other PC works fine... Please Help!

so uninstall mcaffee to see if that's it. Have you disabled any services lately? Check for spyware using spybot, check your hosts file as well

Option for networking for windows along with unix (solaris)?

am new to networking can give idea and concept for my question.

am in a environemnt contains 20 computers, in that 10 computers are connected (networked) via ip address 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.10 with sun solaris networking concept and the remaining 10 computers are connected via 192.0.0.1 to 192.0.0.10 in windows network concept , now i want to connect (network) all 20 computers both solaris and windows networked computers what will be the better option / method for this environment. just give some basic idea

Option for networking for windows along with unix (solaris)?
Re-IP your network. Sounds like you're using static IP addresses, so change them all to 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.0.19. (I'm not sure where you got the 192.0.0.1 through 192.0.0.10 - those are public internet addresses.) Before you network them, make sure they have unique computer names.

Next, make sure you have Samba loaded on your Solaris PCs. Samba is how the *nix world communicates with Windows. Once you have Samba configured properly on all the Solaris PCs, all computers should see each other on the network so you can share files/printers.

Networking problems: XP to Win98?

I am trying to network my two PCs over an Ethernet crossover cable.

I have an XP pc with a DSL internet connection (which I want to share), and a Win98 pc. Both have working networking cards.

I used the XP networking wizard to set up the connection. I ran this on both PCs.

The XP PC can see the '98 PC in the workgroup ("MSHOME"), but cannot access it or its sharing folder. The 98 PC cannot even see the XP PC in the Network Neighbourhood.

The ethernet cable is working, I used the Ping command to make sure. I get a reply on both machines.

I'm guessing this problem is to do with XP's security settings. Help would be much appreciated!

Networking problems: XP to Win98?
If you can ping it but cannot access the share folder I would suggest disabling the fire wall in XP. Also check the IP settings on your 98 machine. Make sure they are on the same subnet and have the default gateway properly configured. Another thing is that you might wanna run the internet connection sharing again on your xp machine.

Email at marcodurazoolivas@yahoo.com if you need additional help
Reply:Never liked the Networking capabilities in Windows. Have a look at NetworkMagic.com - you may need to remove any Windows networking settings you created. I installed Network Magic about 6 months ago and have not had a single issue. Works with McAfee Internet Wireless apps as well.

Reply:While using the network setup wizard, did it give you a disk to put into the 98 machine? It sets up the settings on the 98 machine. Assuming you did this, your xp machine might be blocking connections. Check your firewalls on both machines, try disabling them and see if it works. If it does, then you will have to visit your Firewall/Internet Security software maker website and find out how to bypass this certain feature.

This website has some info on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) with XP http://www.practicallynetworked.com/shar...

Networking Problem, Vista and XP, help please?

I'm attempting to Network my 3 home computers together to share a printer, an external hard drive, and the shared folders on each individual PC. The machines are a Dell Desktop running XP (wired to the switch) , and two HP laptops running Vista (wireless). The networking device is a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The printer is no problem since it is a nework printer already and all I have to do is plug it into the router and install the drivers on the computers, which is already done. The hard drive is easy two, I know how to share drives and folders once the network is already setup. After using the Windows network setup wizard I can see the Dell's shared drives and folders from the HP, but I cannot see the HP's shared drives and folders from the Dell, what's the problem?

If any more info is needed just let me know and I'll provide it. Thanks in advance.

Networking Problem, Vista and XP, help please?
I'd check 3 things,

Windows Firewall settings

All 3 computers in the same workgroup

File/Folder permissions

If those 3 things are right, then you should be able to access all the shares you want.
Reply:Is the Windows firewall running? Try turning it off temporarily as a test. If everything can see each other, then you will need to open the firewall(s) to allow connections to the other computers in the workgroup.

2) I want to set up a server for everyone to be able to save documents on it.

3)Is there any way to combine two networks in the same house to act as one?

4)If I am hosting a website, is a switch safer to use than a Hub?

2. Most simplistic way is designate a central computer and have it share its disk space, then there is option on the clients to mount it as a drive, but a myriad of better ways involving domains and Windows NT/descendant Server Edition.

3. See answer to 1.

The above involves to set up NetBIOS over IP properly; or the most proper name is Microsoft SMB network, you may see other names betraying the fact it was an evolved form of a Microsoft networking technology of over 20 years old.

Networking Report Paper?

I have to do a paper in my cisco networking class. About anything related to networking. I'm not the bestw hen it comes to networking...so..if anyone could just give me a subject to do that's simple, but imformitive I'd appreciate it. I was thinking maybe setting up a wireless network? any ideas?

Networking Report Paper?
First, doing a paper for a networking class....Kinda old fashion. Nothing against you, but more against the instruction itself.

Networking for many years now.

Hum....If I were going to do a paper on something networking......Oh wait, I already wrote a few books :)

Seriously, just getting started is a great thing. Probably the most interesting thing about networking is how it got its start. Why and when did we first think about "networking"? If you really want to get hard core, go down to Nikola Tesla and see what he added to the "wireless" possibilites.

Sincerely,

Tom
Reply:Well, what is the most common network situations these days? Business networks could have any number of configurations, but now, with home networking it becomes much less dense as there are only about less than a half dozen network solutions, and then they seldom are bridged, so they are extremely easy to configure. Especially with the current Connect Now technology.

Look in your syllabus and see what the instructor is focusing on the most, and choose one of those topics. Instructors tend to have certain favored areas of knowledge and if you can discover what this particular instructor enjoys tinkering with the most, and then write a report on it, you are bound to get a god grade, at least for effort. lol

Good luck and much success with your class and your paper. Please have a nice day.

Is networking jobs good or software jobs?
Both jobs are god, they get you job and salary also. But my basic question is which job you prefers, in which you have more expertise, and feel comfortable, and enjoy the job ? select that one. Monetary benefits is secondary . Of course, you need money. But in my opinion job satisfaction is more important. You may get a package of 5 lac / year, but if you find later, the job you selected is not the one what exactly one you wanted, then ? You may get fat package in software, but have you verified how much it spoils your health. Think again, consult other experienced people, then decide. Good luck.

Reply:Its better to go for a networkin job only because if do this certifications you will get a job very soon and if the software you have to learn the latest languages every days so in my opinon network jobs are better.
Reply:depending on your interest. i would recommend networking. take ccna, then ccnp, then ccie. don't stop, sit and relax after ccna. go further and u will be collecting fat pay check.
Reply:You're question is a good one but has no real answer it boils down to personal choice that's it, both jobs are very fulfilling but you need to specialize to get were the real money is so think of it like this what part of networking don't you like and should you have any software experience what did you not like then weigh them up. Also Networking in the Carrier field pays very well that might be a long term option. As for salary increases that's difficult depends on the country the company and your personal contribution as this is how you are rated...

I am in the networking field and love it especially now that we have the convergence with MPLS networks coming of age, clearly you need to evaluate your likes and dislikes and take ti from there. Best of Luck and Success to you !!!!

Networking via serial or parallel pot?

A friend has couple of modern computers which she has successfully networked.

She also have an ancient Pentium 1, which is in good working order and which she also wants to network.

The machine has no USB or network port.

Essentially three questions:

Can I retro fit a USB or Network card to this computer?

If not, then are there networking possibilities with the serial or parallel ports?

Is there are device to convert serial to USB (I know the other way round is possible)?

System is running Win98SE and not powerful enough to take anything stronger.

Networking via serial or parallel pot?
use have only one method as

1. buy cable that both side of cable have same serial port.

2 next, install program like laplink ---%26gt; search on google web

3. after install the program both computers

4. connect 2 computers with cable on item 1

5. open laplink program of both computer

6. the computer ready to peer to peer

( if you can not use this program ----%26gt; search on google web )

" Howto laplink "
Reply:A ISA network card is be the best solution. If you can't find one use a serial to serial null modem cable.

Networking problems for pros?

I have a linksys wireless router set up in my room. It splits the internet between my room mates laptop and another laptop. As it stands, anything after the router is in it's own network. My problem is the building I'm in has it's own network (has something to do with an ultra pier) and I want to be a part of that newtwork as well. My main computer has two LAN connections and I've tried to connect one cable to it and one to the router but the internet stops at my computer. My main objective is to connect to the network in the building for networking with itunes and still be able to transmit my own network wirelesly. Also I only have one intenet connection in my room.

Networking problems for pros?
Or the school is already providing a private network...

does your room have an ethernet port in the wall?

connect from the wall to your linksys in the 4port switch area.

then connect your desktop to the second port and laptop to the third unless you want to be wireless...as far as your router goes you do want to disable dhcp and you also want to disable NAT and on the status page release your ip, its probably all zero's already. as far as wireless on the router - set up the SSID and disable broadcast so other kids dont see it and set encryption and if you want setup the MAC address filter so that only wireless connections with matching MAC addresses get to connect if they got a key and know the SSID...

On the wireless laptop go to network properties and right click the wireless connection and choose properties and then switch to the wireless tab and configure the SSID and encryption key there.

This is assuming you have Windows XP.
Reply:I bet your problem is you have the two networks using the same address range.

If that is the case, then you will have routing problems.

Try this:

Only connect to the Intranet of your building (disable your wifi).

In a windows command window, type ipconfig

take note of the ip address, ipmask and gateway address.

Then disable that network and connect to the wifi router.

Again do ipconfig and take note of the ip address, netmask and gateway.

If the addresses do conflict, then change your wifi router settings,

Typically you would change its IP address and its range of dhcp addresses.
Reply:Sounds like you want your main computer to serve as a gateway or proxy for your router so then your laptop (and your friend's laptop) can access the internet. Two ways you might be able to do it. 1) Try Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing feature. I wouldn't touch it but you're welcome to experiment on your own. =) 2) Go to www.handcraftedsoftware.org and download FreeProxy. Install FreeProxy on the computer with the two network connections. Fiddle around with the setup and make sure it's running (the base settings will pretty much work right off the bat). Then set the programs (iTunes, Internet Explorer, FireFox, etc) on your laptops to use a proxy server: give it the NAT IP address of your computer with FreeProxy. (The NAT IP address is the one that is being provided by the LinkSys router.)

I am using a similar model to share a single internet connection at my home. I have a laptop with a Cingular 3G internet card and FreeProxy. When I bring my laptop home from work I plug it into a hub. All my home computers can then access the internet through the proxy on my laptop. I used this method instead of Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing because Microsoft installs a mini DHCP server with it's Internet Connection Sharing feature. A DHCP server on my laptop would be a big "no no" at work. I should know, I'm a SysAdmin. LOL.
Reply:Start from square one and restate your question. Start with your pc, how it connects to the net, whether you are connecting to the complex network to get to the internet or you have your own internet provider, and lastly, just what you want to connect to what! Sounds like you got a wet dream goin on!
Reply:go into the router, and disable DHCP. Now your router is a wireless switch, hopefully DHCP is distributed by the main network. If not, you'll need the network settings from the admin. You and your roomate will become part of the main building network. If you set your own workgroup name, then just you two will be part of that workgroup. Have automatic IP address on the computers. On the laptops, have the same SSID and WEP or WPA key as the router. Disable one of the LAN ports on the main computer, and connect the other to the port on the router.

Building network-%26gt;Router-%26gt;your two (or more) computers wirelessly or wired into the router.

Good luck!

Networking BT Home Hub local file sharing...?

Just changed my Belkin wireless router for the BT home hub (basically for the free Norton security). Although I can see all the PC's connected to the hub through the Hub Manager utility, I cannot access the data on other PC's through My Network Places. A search for computers on the network comes up blank, not even identifying the computer I am searching from.

I have tried running the Network Wizard on all machines, but this achieves nothing....

Other posts on Yahoo Answers seem to be from people familiar with networking on XP, but not with the BT Home Hub. I think the BT Home Hub uses its own software and prefers you not to use the XP Networking Wizard. Also, it configures the IP addresses, starting from 192.168.1.64 or 65.

PLEASE ONLY ANSWER IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THE BT HOME HUB.

Networking BT Home Hub local file sharing...?
The BT is fine, but the problem you are most likely having is that the computers aren't seeing each other in Network Places because of a few reasons:

1. The computers are not in the same workgroup

2. The computers are not set up to share resources.

To check the first, right-click My Computer, go to Properties, and look at the "Computer Name" tab. Do this on all the computers and assure they all have the same workgroup name. If not, change so they do.

For the latter, the easiest way to enable this is to open Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and right-click on one of the drives and enable file sharing.

After making sure these two things are done, you should be able to see one computer from the other.

Also, although not by default, another problem may be that "client for Microsoft Networks" is not enabled, which must be on all comptuers for them to see each other in "network places". This is a client that will be listed in the network properties along with TCP/IP.

As far as I know, the BT should allow this network traffic by defuault. Anyway, hope that helps.

Good luck,

Mikel
Reply:Disable firewalls on both computers so they are not blocking it. Then create a new folder, click properties, click sharing and tick the box "share this folder on the network" , then reset pc.

Network problem with
Fedora 7 - networking works on live cd but not after install?

This is on a laptop with realtek wired network interface and intel pro 2000 wireless interface. Networking all works fine on the live cd. After the livecd has been installed the networking won't work - can't activate the wireless card, wired interface says it is activated but won't work and the network manager icon does not show in the system tray. I'm a linux newbie, and after searching for a while I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks

Network problem with

Fedora 7 - networking works on live cd but not after install?
COOL! A fellow Fedora user.

Ok, my friend, let us start. In Fedora 7, GNOME Network Manager is not enabled by default. I could never get it to work anyway, so it might be a good thing.

Let's see, have your root password handy first of all, and open up a terminal.

First thing you want to check is whether your network service is running or not, type as root:

/etc/init.d/network restart

just to be safe.

If your network starts properly, then we are in a good track. Make if you see something like determining IP information for ethX, then it's even better. It means that your machine is trying to resolve an IP address.

As I could never get Network Monitor to work, just disable it on the service list, it might be causing issues for you. Run as root:

system-config-services

and stop%26amp;disable NetworkManager and its companion service (should be the first two on the list).

Save your new config and run from the terminal:

system-config-network

Make sure your devices are properly configured and set to be activated when your machine boots. If your devices are deactivated at this point, activate them. Let me know if this works. If not, post details of the error logs and I'll answer accordingly.

======

After extra info:

Good to hear that at least your wired internet is going well. About WPA keys, once again, get your root password ready and open up a terminal.

As root, type:

system-config-network

Look for your wireless adaptor there and click the edit button in the toolbar, go into the Wireless Settings tab and use this settings:

Mode: Managed

Network Name:

(X) Specified: [the name of your network]

Key: 0x[Your WPA Key in HEX]

Remember the leading 0x (zero and lowercase x) in front of your WPA Key in HEX and to set the device to get the IP address via DHCP (provided that is what you use in your network, which most likely, it is). This option will be on the General Tab of the same window.

Optionally, on the General tab, set the device to activate at computer powerup.

Save your settings and restart your network with

/etc/init.d/network restart

If it still doesn't work, let me know.

Networking on a commercial level??

Ok so i have done many networking jobs on a home base and small home based business level before with setting up personal firewalls and WIFI, but recently i was asked to network for a actual company that has recently bought a new building and considering i have never done work on a commercial level am curious on if anyone knows of any differences as far as networking standards go?? i was told that because the building is classed as a commercial, instead of just a home their is a special type of wiring and standards for wiring the office building that are differ from a home, i have tested network security and are very good at networking in general, if any tips or ideas on the subject maybe from someone who has done it in the past please let me know asap , thanks as always

Networking on a commercial level??
It sounds like you're in over your head maybe.

Do you have to setup anything special like multiple subnets, or commercial routers? Do you have to separate data traffic from voip traffic? How long are the runs? Do you have to put repeaters in? Do you know how to wire a drop? Do you have to run the cabling through conduits, or can it just be free inside the ceiling? Does it require insulation around the cables? Can you avoid 90 degree angles?

Networking Printers & Desktop Power Issues?

I have a couple questions about networking printers. We have 2 printers we want to network one is an older lasar jet printer and the other is a Dell All in One Photo 966AIO it has a wireless network card. In our house we have 2 desktops and 2 laptops on our wireless network. Everytime I want to print something though I end up having to go plug my laptop in to the printers. Originally we had the printers plugged into a desktop but that desktop is not powering up now. Is there any way at all to use the wireless printer WITHOUT it actually being plugged into a computer. We are going to get a new desktop but if not what is the best way to network the printers for all of the computers in the house. 2ND QUESTION; our desktop just quit powering up all of a sudden, my husband bought a new power supply but it still not working. Any ideas? Thanks

Networking Printers %26amp; Desktop Power Issues?
1. about your networking printer. why didn't you make a home wireless network in windows. you can all share a printer and folder and files. 2. since you got a new power supply, maybe that's not the problem. the problem could be either the motherboard and/or cpu. to test a motherboard. plug your power and try to start it up. if you get lights or start. then it will be your cpu. there is no other way to test the cpu but to get another compatible motherboard to test it.

Networking Question?

I'm in a networking class, and I'd like some opinions to how to solve this problem, and if you can, please explain why it would help.

Recently, you connected two departments' 10BaseT hub-based networks by connecting the two hubs with a 10BaseT cable. Now workers on both networks complain that the network is too slow. Why has the network degraded? Develop a plan to ease traffic on the network, including any additional hardware requirements.

Networking Question?
Multiple hubs with many users is bad news- all traffic broadcasts- it cannot be routed. A switch uses MAC addresses to send information to specific computers, printers, or whatever has a NIC. In order for 2 computers behind a hub to talk to each other, one has to broadcast to the whole network that it is looking for the other one. Then, the other one has to broadcast to the whole network that is listening. Everybody in the same room can only find other folks by shouting out the name of who they are looking for.
Reply:Accouple of back ground info.... Network speed 10mb/100mb.1gb is based on a series of devices a slower speed on any device will slow down the entire network to the slower speed.

So even with a 1gb hub/switch the 10baseT cable will slow the network to 10mb...

With the networks connected by hubs. Simply put all traffice get broadcasted through all ports, all cables, all hubs, goes to everyone.. can you see that this clobbers the network...

So with each department on seperate networks there was less "broadcasts" clobbering the network....

When the two were connected each seperate "broadcasted" signals were now being sent accross both networks....

If you are not accessing the internet, you do not need a router..

There is two options I see:

Option one:

Install a bridge (it is like a 1 port switch) between the two hubs. This cuts down on most "broadcasts" but still allows traffic to pass through..

Option two:

Put both networks on one switch, establish two VLANs (you'll learn this in class). Simply put each pc connected is it own network and less broadcasts will increase the speed of the network.

Getting faster cables or hubs "could" help but I think the instructor is looking for a switch. either between the hubs, or replacing the hubs..

In todays technology a bridge, while it may do the job is obsolete, so the switch is the way to go.

Anywho hope this helps...
Reply:the traffic is probably botlenecking at that one 10Base T cable.

Instead you could use a larger hub or a switch that can hold all of the clients.
Reply:10BaseT was the original standard in LANs. If you have installed this type of network and now your users are complaining of speed issues its due to limitations at 10Mbs. You can upgrade the network using 100BaseT Hubs without having to use different cable. This saves money and time while increasing speed and efficency 90%.

Also you can have one Router working as a DHCP server (issuing IP addresses) and two routers connecting to that gateway instead of hubs increasing the number of collision domains thus improving network efficency even more
Reply:.

The Network degraded when you connected the two with 10 Base T.

Upgrade the ethernet cable to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE).

Also consider a faster routers to replace hubs

h2h
Reply:You really need a Switch or even a Router. There is too much broadcast traffic.
Reply:Hubs share the base bandwidth between all ports. In other words if one port is pulling 8Mbps then the other ports will only have 2Mbps to share from. On the other hand a switch gives full bandwidth to every port.
