Networking BT Home Hub local file sharing...?

Just changed my Belkin wireless router for the BT home hub (basically for the free Norton security). Although I can see all the PC's connected to the hub through the Hub Manager utility, I cannot access the data on other PC's through My Network Places. A search for computers on the network comes up blank, not even identifying the computer I am searching from.

I have tried running the Network Wizard on all machines, but this achieves nothing....

Other posts on Yahoo Answers seem to be from people familiar with networking on XP, but not with the BT Home Hub. I think the BT Home Hub uses its own software and prefers you not to use the XP Networking Wizard. Also, it configures the IP addresses, starting from 192.168.1.64 or 65.

PLEASE ONLY ANSWER IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THE BT HOME HUB.

Networking BT Home Hub local file sharing...?
The BT is fine, but the problem you are most likely having is that the computers aren't seeing each other in Network Places because of a few reasons:

1. The computers are not in the same workgroup

2. The computers are not set up to share resources.

To check the first, right-click My Computer, go to Properties, and look at the "Computer Name" tab. Do this on all the computers and assure they all have the same workgroup name. If not, change so they do.

For the latter, the easiest way to enable this is to open Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and right-click on one of the drives and enable file sharing.

After making sure these two things are done, you should be able to see one computer from the other.

Also, although not by default, another problem may be that "client for Microsoft Networks" is not enabled, which must be on all comptuers for them to see each other in "network places". This is a client that will be listed in the network properties along with TCP/IP.

As far as I know, the BT should allow this network traffic by defuault. Anyway, hope that helps.

Good luck,

Mikel
Reply:Disable firewalls on both computers so they are not blocking it. Then create a new folder, click properties, click sharing and tick the box "share this folder on the network" , then reset pc.
