Networking?

I have two laptops.

I have one incoming broadband LAN connection.

I want to have live Internet connection on both the laptops simultaneously.

What additional equipment, I have to buy and what are the specifications?

How to setup Internet connection in both the laptops?

I have very little knowledge on this and I will appreciate your answers / replies, in a bit more detail, if you can.

Networking?
to set up multiple laptops to a connection you can do it 2 ways by either wireless or a wired connection. If your laptops have built in Wireless (which they would have a switch on the laptop for wireless I know mine those I don't know if they all do). You would need to by a router which allows mulitple connections for the internet. I would recommend buying a Linksys router it is a division of Cisco Systems and is used by many different companies and is recommended by computer technicians that I have talked to. A wireless router would cost around $60-$80 depending on how much you want to spend. Since you want to connect 2 laptops I would think that wireless is your best option. To set up the connection you need to go into the routers firmware and config it. I have set up my own wireless network and I had to spend a lot of time looking over the set up manual and play around with it since I am not to knowledgable in networking. With a wireless router once the connection is set up it's good to encrypt the connection to prevent unauthorize access. I would recommend using WPA-PSK2 it has a 256 bit encryption and was recommend to me by a network administator I know. I hope this has help a bit.
Reply:Get yourself a wireless (if you have wireless network cards in your laptops) or a 5 port router if you only have network cards that use network cables.

Plug your Broadband connection into the proper port on the router (usually the uplink port).

Configure the router to the specifications that your Broadband ISP will provide.

Connect your laptops to the router either via the wireless cards or by pluggin them into the router. Be careful not to plug the laptops into the port beside the uplink port as this usually gets disabled if you are using the uplink port.

If you have any other questions your ISP should be able to get you the rest of the way.
Reply:The simplest and cheapest way to do this is to enable Internet Connection sharing on the laptop that is receiving the broadband signal.Go to your Network connections dialog box and run the 'Set up a home or small office network.' Share the connection.

You will also need a Ethernet crossover cable - NOT a patch cable between the two computers. Performance would not be as good as with a router - but this is the cheap way to do it.
