Networking?

Reply:First for the wireless computer set up.(unless you are going to run a network cable from upstairs to downstairs, do the following)

1. Buy a wireless router

2. Make sure the new computer has a built in wireless setup. If not you need to buy a card or usb set up for wireless.

3. Set those 2 things up by following the directions on each item.

Now the printer:

1. On the computer with the printer attached to it...Go to printer and faxes...You can get there through control panel...then right click on the default printer.... then click on properties at the bottom of the menu.....click on the sharing tabs.... and click on share this printer and give it a name.

2. On the new computer, go again to printer and faxes. This time click on add a printer.

3. Follow the prompts and...

4. Everything should work.
Reply:You will need to put a router in place, your decision if it will be wired or wireless (my assumption would be that wireless is easiest since you do not have to run cables). Your Moto Surfboard will connect to the modem, your Dimension 4550 to the router. The second computer (if you go wireless) will require a wireless card. This should allow both to connect to the internet. (Setup will be a little different based on router purchased and your service provider, directions are usually straight forward). To print from downstairs to the printer you also have some options. You could network the two PCs to the same work group and enable file and printer sharing on the 4550. You would then be able to install the printer remotely. The other option is to purchase a network print server (these are also wired or wireless) and follow the instructions to set it up.
