Networking?

When me and my now wife got together we both had desktop computers. we now have laptops but I want to connect both of our desktops together, how do I do it and what do I need?

Networking?
Depends on the distance they are away from each other. If they're in separate rooms and you don't feel like running cable, then go wireless. Go to your local BestBuy or CompUSA store. Have someone there show you the wireless options. Have them point you to the products, but don't buy them just yet.

Search on eBay, www.pricewatch.com, or www.newegg.com for better deals. On occasion, the retail store will have rebates that make buying it there cheaper than snooping online.

He's going to recommend you get a router and wireless card. Don't let him/her talk you into buying "two" wireless cards, because you only need one for the PC that's not going to be in the same room as the wireless router. The one that is in the same room can use an ethernet cable going straight to the router.

As for setting up the sharing in Windows, go to the following sites for help:

Reply:u can connect through LAN or router or switch.
Reply:Purchase a router. I recommend a linksys router. You may even want to explore wireless, but I don't recommend it. Hook the router up and properly configure the two computers. Your ip configuration will look like 192.198.1.xxx subnet will look like 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway and DNS will be 192.168.1.1. Good luck.
Reply:All you need is a router.

Once set up you'll be able to use 1 net connection for both machines, 1 printer, etc etc. And of course you'll need cables if they aren't wireless equiped.

Nothing much to it really.
