I have 2 computers connected to each other via LAN cable, i have succesfully mangaed to configure them and they can now share data, i now need to share the internet connection which is on "Computer A" with "Computer B", I have done the process before with the help of a friend, but unfortunately i have to format "computer B", all i know is that i have to tweak the network settings in computer B which is located under TCP/IP%26gt;%26gt;Properties.
Computer A: (With internet Connection)
IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preffered DNS: 192.168.0.1
Computer B:
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: ??
Preffered DNS: ??
Alternate DNS: ??
Note: All the tweaks have been done on computer A, only Computer B requires attension as computer B was formatted, [No Router is being used]
Networking?
Defaul gatway : 192.168.0.1
and make sure that you enable internet connection sharing on comp A.
if it doesnt work add this also:
alternate DNS server: 4.2.2.2
after you did it be sure that you can see the Internet
thats it.
Reply:In the Run command type in: IPCONFIG this will open a DOS window and give you all of the IP info you seek.
Reply:You don't describe in what OS you are working on.
But basically if Computer A is set as a internet gateway, then you need to configure NAT/Masquerade on Computer A,
If you are using Windows XP, you can use Winroute to do NAT, If you are using WIndows 2003 Server, you can set NAT on "Routing and Remote Access".
But if you are using Linux then search on Google for "easy firewall generator".
Assume Computer A is connected and can access to internet, then fill Default gateway and Preferred DNS with Computer A IP (192.168.0.1).
Because "192.168.0.1" Interface is set as gateway then you must leave the Default Gateway and Preferred DNS "EMPTY". If this interface gateway filled then Computer A will search connection from this interface not Serving Connection for Computer B.
